Once again a message came to me from the Lord: “Son of man, give your people this message: ‘When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman. When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives. But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths. ~ Ezekiel 33:1-6

In this passage, God warns Ezekiel that there are two types of watchmen. One that sees the enemy coming and warns others, and one that sees the enemy coming but does nothing. As those that have received salvation through Christ we have all been appointed a watchman of His Kingdom, and like Ezekiel, we all have to decide; Which type of watchman will we be?

Right now there is a great need at Faith Covenant for watchmen that are willing to stand guard over the youngest members of our congregation. People willing to give their time to make sure that the warning goes out to those that rely on us the most. It is clear in God’s words to Ezekiel that if we fail in this responsibility, we will be the ones that God holds accountable.

In the area of Children’s Ministry we are facing a big challenge this fall. Right now we have less than half of the volunteers we need to work with kids on Sunday mornings. To echo God’s words to Ezekiel, we need a few more “watchmen”.

Would you consider becoming a watchman for the next generation of Christians? Sunday volunteers work an every other week schedule. For less than three hours a month you can begin the transition from a silent watchman, to one who proclaims the good news of Jesus.
