Once again a message came to me from the Lord: “Son of man, give your people this message: ‘When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman. When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives. But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths. ~ Ezekiel 33:1-6

In this passage, God warns Ezekiel that there are two types of watchmen. One that sees the enemy coming and warns others, and one that sees the enemy coming but does nothing. As those that have received salvation through Christ we have all been appointed a watchman of His Kingdom, and like Ezekiel, we all have to decide; Which type of watchman will we be?

Right now there is a great need at Faith Covenant for watchmen that are willing to stand guard over the youngest members of our congregation. People willing to give their time to make sure that the warning goes out to those that rely on us the most. It is clear in God’s words to Ezekiel that if we fail in this responsibility, we will be the ones that God holds accountable.

In the area of Children’s Ministry we are facing a big challenge this fall. Right now we have less than half of the volunteers we need to work with kids on Sunday mornings. To echo God’s words to Ezekiel, we need a few more “watchmen”.

Would you consider becoming a watchman for the next generation of Christians? Sunday volunteers work an every other week schedule. For less than three hours a month you can begin the transition from a silent watchman, to one who proclaims the good news of Jesus.

To volunteer or for more information on volunteering in Children’s Ministry, please contact Jon Dack at [email protected] or call 952.890.3110.

Hello Faith’ers. Jon Oney here. What happen to the nice weather?  I am sitting in my office looking out at the cold rainy day on this Wednesday afternoon thinking about turning on the heat! I don’t know if you noticed, but we had a day with a high of 95 yesterday and today we are sitting at 59. What is up with that?

Ok. Enough of me complaining. We had a spectacular weekend last week at the Fire Muster as we saw many different people from many different faith backgrounds come together in praise and worship before God. Speaking of things coming together, this weekend we start our fall kick off series called Come Together. You might even hear a Beetle’s tune.

I think the Beatles had it right—some things are just made to come together.  …Cookies and milk, peanut butter and jelly, the Vikings and a new stadium…well I guess we will see on that last one. More importantly, have you ever considered what or whom God intends to come together? Join us this Sunday as we start a journey through the book of Ephesians and explore what God asks to come together.

One more thing…We still need people for the worship team. So if you are interested, please send me an email at [email protected].

Can’t wait to see how God is going to move this weekend!

FAITH UPDATE – September 4, 2012

Hello Faith Covenant Family!

Do you feel that thing in the air?  Not the crispness of fall (though that’s pretty great, too), but the energy and excitement of a new school year.  As the son of a teacher and a career-long youth worker, I’ve always lived my life and schedule alongside student schedules, so maybe I’m biased.  But this time of year, more than any other time, seems to be a time of excitement, new beginnings, and palpable hope.  Or maybe it’s just because football season is starting…

THIS SUNDAY (SEPTEMBER 9)

A reminder that this Sunday is Burnsville Firemuster, and Faith Covenant will be leading the community-wide worship service at 10:30am at Civic Center Park. You can worship at Faith Covenant at 9am and then walk across the street to Civic Center Park to worship with the greater Burnsville community.  After worship, bring your lunch and a folding chair to watch the Fire Muster Parade (1pm) from Faith’s parking lot.

FALL KICKOFF AND OPEN HOUSE FOR ALL WEDNESDAY NIGHT PROGRAMMING

All families with students in Wednesday night programming (of any age), as well as any adults taking one of our Wednesday night classes: please be sure to join us Sept 12 (next Wednesday) for our shared worship time at 6:30pm in the sanctuary.  After spending about 20-30 minutes together, we will then have opportunities for you to hear everything you need to know for your elementary, middle, or high school student for this year, or to learn more about your class.  I hope we see you there!
